SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 8, 2016) — In appreciation of the men and women who serve our country, VIA Metropolitan Transit’s “Active Duty, Act of Thanks” reduced-fare campaign for active-duty military was unveiled today.

Brig. Gen. Robert D. LaBrutta, Commander of the 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), recognized the value of the partnership between VIA and JBSA during the announcement today.  VIA began offering half-price fares for active-duty military earlier this year as part of its fare restructuring.  The agency also introduced a new 7-Day Pass and lower-priced Day Pass for VIA customers.

“By expanding our reduced-fare eligibility to active-duty service members, VIA continues our commitment to serve those who serve our country,” said VIA President and CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt.  “We are honored that Brig. Gen. LaBrutta joined VIA for the announcement of this military community initiative.”

San Antonio has one of the nation’s largest active military populations, and is home to the U.S. Department of Defense’s largest medical center at JBSA. In addition, more than 132,000 students graduate from military training here each year. VIA is proud to salute our country’s active members of the armed forces.

VIA has a robust presence at the region’s military installations, including Express Route service, providing approximately 1,000 passenger trips each weekend.  With the new reduced-fare, active-duty military in uniform or with a VIA reduced-fare ID pay 65 cents for regular fare—half off the full fare of $1.30.
