SAN ANTONIO (June 16, 2016) — Drivers are encouraged to leave their vehicles behind on Thursday, June 16, and take transit in observance of National Dump the Pump Day. VIA Metropolitan Transit is proud to join public transportation providers across the nation to promote the initiative that was created to encourage people to utilize public transportation.

Championed by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), National Dump the Pump Day promotes public transportation as a cost-saving choice, and one that helps communities grow and prosper.

“Public transportation helps to make our community economically prosperous and competitive,” VIA Deputy CEO Keith Hom said. “National Dump the Pump Day is an opportunity for VIA to generate awareness about public transportation options in the Greater San Antonio Region, and support the positive benefits they provide to our community.”

APTA’s April 2016 Transit Savings Report shows a two-person household that downsizes to one car can save an average of more than $9,000 a year.
