SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 4, 2016) – VIA Metropolitan Transit’s 2017 Poetry on the Move contest is open and will run through Nov. 10, 2016. Now in its eighth year, VIA’s contest features selected poems, illustrated with designs by area teen art programs. The illustrated poems will be displayed on VIA buses and vans during National Poetry Month in April 2017.

“As VIA continues working to connect our region, Poetry on the Move creates a special connection between local artists and the riders we serve,” said VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt. “What results is a unique form of transit art that fuses the literary and auditory aspects of poetry with the aesthetics of visual arts.”

The contest is open to anyone age 18 and older in Central and South Texas. Entries must be postmarked or emailed by Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016.

Contestants may each submit up to three unpublished poems. Poems must be no longer than 10 lines, including titles and spaces, free of any offensive language, and understandable by a wide audience. Contest judges, VIA employees and their families are not eligible to participate.

Entries should be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to Poetry on the Move, VIA Government & Community Relations, P.O. Box 12489, San Antonio, Texas 78212. Winners will be notified before their work is published in VIA’s fleet. For more information on submitting poems to the contest, click here.
