Selected public art graphics will grace new Prímo bus shelters

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 1, 2018) – VIA Metropolitan Transit has extended the deadline to Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 for entries in its Art in Transit Program — an art contest to engage community residents, artists, and other interested persons for the creation of site-specific art in two-dimensional graphics, to be incorporated as part of the new Prímo transit project bus shelters along Zarzamora Street and Military Drive.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the artists whose submissions are selected. Fifty-two (maximum) prizes may be awarded as follows: 1st place prize submission $1,500; 2nd place prize submission $1,000; 3rd place prize submission $ 750; Honorable Mentions (2) $ 500; and each selected submission (47) $ 500.

An outline of all the elements necessary to develop a submittal graphic is available at VIAinfo.net/art-in-transit. Entries submitted must meet all requirements. This Art Contest is open to all interested persons eighteen (18) years or older. A minor may participate with the express written consent of a parent or Court appointed guardian.

VIA staff will manage a process that will translate the selected graphics from this art contest into laser-cut metal panels, and integrate the panels as artwork in the shelter windscreen component, to promote local culture and influence transit use, enhancing both VIA and the local community.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. For more information on how to submit an entry, visit www.viainfo.net/art-in-transit, send an inquiry to [email protected] or call 210-299-5904.
