SAN ANTONIO (March 3, 2018) – With the upcoming Joint Primary Elections just days away, 21 college students took advantage of VIA Park & Ride Service to cast their ballot at the polls on Friday, March 2, the last day of early voting.
The elections are Tuesday, March 6, and VIA Metropolitan Transit reminds the community to “Ride VIA to Vote,” the initiative that provides free public transportation on municipal, state, and federal election days for passengers who present a valid voter registration card to a bus or van operator.
Encouraged by Move San Antonio, a grassroots non-profit organization, the students from UTSA and San Antonio College rode VIA’s Express Bus service from the Crossroads Park & Ride location to the early voting polling location on the UTSA Main Campus.
“We’re a non-profit, non-partisan organization who just want to encourage young people to get out and vote,” Drew Galloway said. “We don’t tell them who to vote for, we just want them to get out and vote.”
Move San Antonio works to ensure young voices are heard and considered in the policy-making process and believes engaging young voters is crucial to the success and growth of the community and its constituents.
“We just want to do our civic duty,” student Sean Omar Rivera said. “We thought riding VIA as a group would be a fun way to go out to the polls and vote.”
