To our bike-and-bus riders:

Because more and more people use the bike racks mounted on all VIA buses, some patrons have experienced full bike racks. VIA is committed to improving this situation, and we ask for your help.

If you are a cyclist who also uses the VIA bus system for part of your trip, please participate in this bicycle / bus diary project. The one-page diary form has been developed to gather information about locations that may have heavy bike usage. This will benefit you and all cyclists, as it will give the information needed to evaluate changes that can be made to enhance amenities for you.

We will give away three prizes to participants who provide completed forms: In a drawing you may win one of two free monthly Big Passes or a $50 gift certificate to your favorite bike shop.

How you can participate:
Please print the downloadable (fillable PDF) diary form and carry it with you or on your bike for a two-week period when you ride your bike and the bus. It is important to log all your trips accurately and consistently. VIA needs information regarding all bike-bus trips, not only trips when you encounter a full bike rack.

Once completed please update the electronic form and return the form via email to abigail.kinnison@viainfo.net; or mail a hard copy to: VIA Metropolitan Transit, ATTN: Abigail Kinnison, PO Box 12489, San Antonio, Texas 78212.

We greatly appreciate your time and participation, and we plan to use your information for your benefit. Please ask your cyclist friends to participate, and tell them they can get forms from the VIA web site (www.viainfo.net) or by calling VIA at 362-2399.

If you can not participate in the diary project, you can still provide valuable information in a different way. If you encounter a bus with a full bike rack, call 362-2020 (VIA’s customer information line) and say you have a “bike rack” problem. It is important to give the bus route, your location (preferably the bus stop number), the day and time, and a description of the problem.

CONTEST RULES: Any mailed or emailed entries MUST be received at VIA’s headquarters by December 1, 2008. Two (2) Big Passes and a gift certificate will be given away in a drawing.
