VIA Metropolitan Transit honored the winners of its Youth Art Contest at an awards luncheon on Thursday, May 14.

The theme for this year’s art contest was “VIA Art is SMART,” and VIA has been supporting the local arts community with the contest for 14 years. The art contest was open to children in grade levels Pre-K through 12 in the San Antonio area, and thousands of entries were submitted to the agency.

Awards were given for first and second place in each grade level, and the overall “Best of Show” award was presented to Madeline Cortez of Hobby Middle School.

The other winners in the contest are listed below. Each first place winner received a $100 savings bond, each second place winner received a $50 savings bond, and the Best of Show winner received a $500 savings bond. The artwork of all the winners will be displayed on VIA’s Classroom on Wheels bus for one year.
