VIA holding public hearings for proposed route changes

Posted: 8/25/2009

VIA Metropolitan Transit will hold three public hearings to receive comments from citizens regarding proposed route changes scheduled to take effect November 2, 2009. The hearings will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday, September 8
6:00 p.m.
San Antonio Central Library
600 Soledad Street

Wednesday, September 9
6:00 p.m.
Maverick Elementary School
107 Raleigh Place
(one block east of Williamsburg and Babcock)

Thursday, September 10
6:00 p.m.
Leon Valley Conference Center
6427 Evers Road

The proposed changes are as follows:

64 U.S. 90 Express – When traveling toward downtown from Ellison Drive and Wiseman Boulevard, route will turn west on Wiseman, south on Loop 1604, and then east on West Military Drive to State Highway 151. Selected peak trips will serve a new park-and-ride facility on West Military. Additional trips will be provided from Northwest Vista College in the morning.
524 General McMullen Frequent – Route will be modified to travel on Hillcrest Drive to get from Babcock Road to Fredericksburg Road rather than down its current routing on Williamsburg Place.
608 Mainland/Bandera Pointe – Route will be eliminated.
Blue Streetcar Route – Route will be converted into a two-way continuous loop with service primarily on Alamo Street, Avenue E, Fourth Street, Camden Street, and Flores Street. Some portions of the existing turn-around loops will be eliminated.
Purple Streetcar Route – Route will be eliminated.

In addition to the above changes:
The following routes will have changes to their pairings: 14, 22, 32, 51, 79, 82, and 96.
The following routes will have minor schedule adjustments: 502 and 505.
The following routes will have service reductions: 5, 6, 8, 14, 17, 22, 25, 30, 32, 36, 51, 62, 67, 75, 79, 82, 90, 94, 96, and 522.

The public hearing facilities are accessible by wheelchair. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may request an interpreter 48 hours prior to the meeting by calling TDD 362-2019 or the Public Affairs office at 362-2370.

Written comments on the service changes should be submitted to VIA’s Public Affairs office at P.O. Box 12489, San Antonio, Texas 78212 by September 10, 2009. Written comments can also be submitted online at the contact page.
