VIA holding public hearing for fare changes

VIA Metropolitan Transit will hold a public hearing to receive comments from citizens regarding proposed fare adjustments. This hearing is scheduled for Monday, December 10, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the VIA Metro Center at 1021 San Pedro.
The proposed changes are as follows:
Regular bus service – from $1.10 to $1.20
Regular bus half fare – from 55 cents to 60 cents
VIAtrans service – from $1.75 to $1.95
Monthly Big Pass – from $30.00 to $35.00
Monthly Big Pass half fare – from $15.00 to $17.50
If approved by the VIA Board of Trustees, the proposed fare adjustments will be presented to the Local Governmental Approval Committee, a group of elected officials that gathers specifically to approve or deny any changes to VIA’s fare structure. If this committee agrees with the VIA Board, the new fares will go into effect in February 1, 2013.
The VIA Metro Center is accessible by wheelchair. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may request an interpreter 48 hours prior to the meeting by calling TDD 362-2019 or the Public Affairs office at 362-2370.
