VIA's art contest begins March 2

VIA Metropolitan Transit’s annual Youth Art Contest kicks off March 2, 2009, and all students in the San Antonio area are eligible to participate.
With this year’s contest, VIA is helping raise awareness of the arts in our community, and the theme of the contest is “VIA Art is SMART!” SMART stands for Supporting Multiple Arts Resources Together, and students can illustrate this theme using any medium as long as an official poster board is used. The 11” x 17” poster boards are free and can be picked up beginning Monday, March 2 at VIA’s administration offices (800 West Myrtle).
VIA’s Youth Art Contest is open to all students in grades pre-K through 12, and submissions will be accepted through April 10, 2009. The first place winner from each grade level will receive a $100 savings bond, each second place winner will get a $50 savings bond, and the Best of Show winner will receive a $500 savings bond. Each winner will also receive a backpack from Radio Disney AM 1160, and they will be honored at an awards luncheon scheduled for May 14 at the San Antonio Garden Center.
