Reduced Fares
Discount bus and streetcar fare are available for the following:
- Senior Citizens (62 and older)
- Students
- Persons with certain disablities
- Medicare recipients
- Veterans who hold a disability rating for aide and attendance, housebound or permanent
and total disability rating at the 100% level
- Children 5-11. Children 4 and under ride free
Reduced Fare Id
A VIA Reduced Fare ID is required and must be presented when boarding in order to
reduced fares or use discounted passes (children are not required to show ID).
How to get a Reduced Fare Id
Senior Citizens, Medicare Recipients, and Disabled Veterans can obtain their Reduced
Fare ID at VIA's Information Centers, except Randolph and Ingram.
Senior citizens who are 62 years or older must present a Texas Department of Public
Safety driver’s license, identification card, or birth certificate.
Medicare recipients must present a valid Medicare Card and Texas Department of Public
Safety driver's license or identification card.
Veterans must have written documentation from the Department of Veterans Affairs
verifying their disability rating.
Persons with certain disabilities can download the Reduced Fare application, or acquire
on from VIA's Information Centers.
Elementary, middle and high school students can the necessary forms through their
administrator's office. College students should contact their Bursar's office.
