The Long Range Comprehensive Transit Plan

The Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Plan (LRCTP) identifies and prioritizes high capacity transit corridors for Bexar County to year 2035 and outlines a range of transit alternatives for the corridors. Many high capacity transit alternatives were considered for our region, including bus rapid transit, electric rail streetcar, light rail, commuter rail, HOV lanes and others. The goals of the LRCTP are to provide sustainable mobility within the Bexar County region, encourage economic development along the corridors and the downtown area, and attract new riders to a more convenient and innovative public transportation system.

The plan establishes policy structure, sets forth strategies, and provides a framework for directing future transit investments in Bexar County. In addition, the plan identifies the financial resources and tools necessary to implement and sustain these services.

The study and process to develop the LRCTP began in May 2009 through an extensive community-driven process called SmartWaySA. In July 2011 the final LRCTP was approved by the VIA Board of Trustees.
