Planned Facilities
North Star Transit Center
VIA’s latest transit facility, the North Star Transit Center, is under construction
and is scheduled to open March 1, 2010 to coincide with the service changes starting
that day. The center will be modeled after the Madla Transit Center with a large
open waiting area, passenger information, a customer service office, vending machines,
and restrooms. The transit center is a result of a partnership by VIA, the Texas
Department of Transportation, and the City of San Antonio.
South Texas Medical Center Transit Center
Currently planned for the corner of Medical Drive and Babcock, the 7.51-acre site
will serve as a transit center and park and ride for bus service and the site for
VIA’s future premiere transit service, Bus Rapid Transit. The facility will be designed
in keeping with the aesthetics of the surrounding area while providing a state-of-the-art
facility.
Planned features include:
-
Staff ticket window – route, schedule, general information, and ticket sales
-
System map display – displays of VIA routes throughout the service area
-
Waiting area –inside lobby with seating for 60
-
Parking – vehicle parking for 128 spaces and additional parking for the disabled
-
Covered waiting area – overhead canopies for customer waiting outside
-
Bike racks
-
Real-time travel information –outside as well as inside the building
-
On-site security and installed security cameras
West Side Multimodal Center
The goal of the WSMM is to create a central station for multiple modes of transportation
to come together, offering seamless connections for customers. The facility is envisioned
as a terminus for bus rapid transit (BRT), numerous bus lines that converge in downtown,
the anticipated Austin-San Antonio commuter rail, inter-city bus service, and taxi
services. It also has great potential to serve as an impetus for near-west side
economic revitalization.
