Westside Multimodal Tranist Center
The goal of the Westside Multimodal Transit Center (WSMMTC) is to create a central
station for multiple modes of transportation to come together, offering seamless
connections for customers. The facility now servies as a terminus for Primo, VIA’s
bus rapid transit service(BRT), numerous bus lines that converge
in downtown, streetcar, the anticipated Austin-San Antonio commuter rail, as well as possible inter-city bus service, AMTRAK,
and taxi services. It also has great potential to serve as an impetus for near-west
side economic revitalization.

Phase 1
Phase 1 of the WSMMTC includes the purchase of an historic train station currently
occupied by Generations Credit Union, and its renovation into a passenger waiting
facility complete with a customer information center, ticket sales office, and other
indoor transit amenities. Outdoors, a transfer facility with on-street shelters and real time passenger information will be provided.
VIA received a “Finding of No Significant Impact” on the VIA Primo Environmental
Assessment (the BRT program along Fredericksburg Road), which included the first
phase of WSMMTC. Phase I of this project is expected to be completed in Summer 2013.
Phase 2
The proposed WSMMTC Phase 2 project includes the construction of a new transit plaza
just east of the current WSMMTC Phase 1 project. The transit center will provide
additional community amenities and will serve as an anchor for economic development.
