VIA’s partnership with Alamo Area MPO encourages healthier living through public transit

SAN ANTONIO (May 11, 2017) – Your bike is your bus pass on May 12. VIA Metropolitan Transit is offering customers who travel with a bicycle complimentary bus rides in support of National Bike Month and the annual Walk & Roll Rally. The event, hosted by the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, will take place from 8 to 9 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2017, at Main Plaza, 115 Main Plaza, Downtown.

VIA has partnered with the Alamo Area MPO to support Walk & Roll Rally since 2005. The rally is part of a full calendar of events throughout May to celebrate National Bike Month and promote walking, cycling, and riding VIA as transportation options that positively impact the economy, quality of life, public health, and the environment.

“Incorporating alternative modes of transportation, such as walking or bicycling, with public transportation options, are an effective way to incorporate healthy activity into your travel plan and also contribute to the health of our environment,” VIA Deputy CEO Keith Hom said.

Since the first Walk & Roll Rally in 1996, there have been numerous efforts to support multimodal travel in the region, including collaborations with community partners like VIA to make biking and walking more attractive options for local travel.
