VIA offers annual passes just with the students in mind. With a complementary student pass and free Wi-Fi on every bus, you can save money, study for class, and surf the web on your way to or from campus or everywhere else VIA goes.
Your pass gives you unlimited rides across the entire VIA network all year long.
Student Pass Eligibility
Applications are now open for the following semesters:
Fall 2026:
August 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026
Spring 2027:
January 1, 2027 – July 31, 2027
How to Get Your Pass
Fill out the form
A parent or guardian needs to complete the quick online application for students under the age of 13.
Submit it
Send the online form in so VIA can process the pass and create your student VIA ID.
Grab it at school
Once approved, the pass will be mailed directly to the student’s school. School staff will hand it over to the student there.
If homeschool, you will need to pick up your pass at one of our customer service centers.
Ride on VIA!
Ride anywhere VIA goes. This includes all regular VIA bus routes, VIA Link, and special events.
Students must tap their student pass every single time they board.

Who is eligible?
Any active student age 12 – 18 years old enrolled in a public, private, charter or home school within Bexar County. -
What are the benefits of the pass?
The Student Pass provides complementary rides on all VIA services including bus routes, VIA Link on-demand service and service to special events. -
How long is my pass valid?
Your Student Pass is valid for the Fall 2026 Semester (August 1 – December 31) and the Spring 2027 Semester (January 1 – July 31). -
What are the eligibility dates?

Can I use the VIA Student Pass for complementary rides on VIAtrans? I am already an approved VIAtrans rider.
The VIA Student Pass can be used for VIAtrans trips except for required educational purposes. Transportation to and from classroom activities is the responsibility of the school. -
What if I'm homeschooled?
To apply, fill out an application above. Once approved, applicants who are homeschooled will need to pick up their pass at one of our VIA customer service centers. -
What if my school is not listed?
Students who do not find their school listed in the online application may apply at one of our VIA customer service centers. -
When will I receive my card?
Once your completed application is received, please allow up to 14 days for processing and delivery. -
Where is my card mailed?
Student passes for public, charter and private school students will be mailed to your school. Homeschool students will pick up passes at one of our VIA customer service centers. Please allow up to 14 days for your request to be processed, mailed and received. -
How can I check the status of my Student Pass processing and delivery?
Please call Customer Care (210) 362-2020 to check on your application. -
What if I transfer schools?
The Student Pass will be valid if the student transfers to a different school. -
What if my card is lost?
If a student loses their Student Pass, they should call VIA Customer Care at (210) 362-2020 for a replacement
