Reduced Fares

A VIA Reduced Fare ID or Student ID is required and must be presented when boarding in order to pay reduced fares or use discounted passes (children and active-duty U.S. military in uniform are not required to show ID). Senior citizens, Medicare recipients, and disabled veterans can obtain their Reduced Fare ID at VIA’s Customer Service Centers. This service is not currently available at the Randolph, Ellis Alley or Ingram locations.

Persons with Certain Disabilities

Persons with certain disabilities can download the Reduced Fare Application / Solicitud de Tarifa con Descuento or acquire one from VIA’s Information Centers.

Senior Citizens (62 & older)

Seniors age 62 and older must present a government-issued ID with date of birth (state ID, driver’s license, veteran’s ID, or passport). With the VIA Reduced Fare ID, riders reach more places for less. Read more about Senior Fares


All students (high school, college and trade school) must present a school-issued Student ID. Students attending schools that do not issue student IDs, should inquire at their respective school office or visit a VIA Information Center to obtain a Reduced Fare Card.  Elementary and Middle School students are not required to have a Reduced Fare Card effective Aug. 1, 2017.  Read more about Student Fares

Active-Duty U.S. Military

Active-duty U.S. military in uniform or who present a VIA Reduced Fare ID may pay a reduced fare or use a Reduced Fare pass. Read more about U.S. Military Fares.


Veterans who hold a disability rating for aide and attendance, housebound or permanent and total disability rating at the 80-percent level must have written documentation from the Department of Veterans Affairs verifying their disability rating.


Children 5-13 years old are not required to show ID effective Aug. 1, 2017. Children 4 years and under ride free. Children below the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible party.

Medicare Recipients

Medicare recipients must present a valid Medicare Card and government issued ID.
