SAN ANTONIO (June 19, 2018) — As gasoline prices continue to rise, more people are considering other transportation options to save money and time, and reduce their impact on our environment. VIA Metropolitan Transit is proud to partner with fellow public transportation agencies across the nation to encourage everyone to dump the pump and ride public transit, as part of the 13th Annual Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 21, 2018.

National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to promote public transportation as an option that helps save money while reducing congestion.  According to the June 2018 APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,160 annually by downsizing to one car (according to the national average gas price of $2.94 per gallon, as reported by AAA). For every $1 invested in public transportation, $4 is returned in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.

Riders will be encouraged to post their stories and photos on VIA’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.
