VIA announces bus stop closures, detours for Green Line construction

SAN ANTONIO (June 30, 2026) — VIA Metropolitan Transit is advising riders, residents and motorists that construction on the VIA Rapid Green Line — the region’s first advanced rapid transit (ART) line — will bring temporary lane and bus stop closures to several areas along the corridor.

The north-to-south line is set to open in April 2028 and will run from the area near the San Antonio International Airport, traveling along Isom Road, south on San Pedro Avenue through Downtown and south to the Missions area, with continuing service to Brooks Transit Center. The VIA Rapid Green Line is designed to connect regional employment centers, health care, entertainment, schools and neighborhoods, moving more people faster and farther.

VIA Rapid will feature off-board fare collection, synchronized traffic signals, raised boarding platforms for better accessibility, with 10-minute weekday and 15-minute weekend frequency, making it the most frequent service in the VIA system. Planned improvements to the corridor bring benefits to the entire community — including enhanced safety with updated crosswalks, lighting and sidewalks, as well as improved traffic flow.

Crews will be working under one-way, single-lane closures, so traffic will continue to move through affected areas. Drivers should anticipate slower speeds, reduced lanes and possible delays.

Riders should also expect temporary bus stop relocations along impacted routes, which include:

  • Route 3 – San Pedro Skip
  • Route 4 – San Pedro Frequent
  • Route 34 – South St. Mary’s
  • Route 42 – Roosevelt
  • Route 90 – Woodlawn
  • Route 95 – Fredericksburg Frequent
  • Route 96 – Vance Jackson
  • Route 97 – West Ave
  • Route 648 – North Star/Stone Oak

VIA encourages everyone traveling through the affected areas to check for construction updates, closures and detours before heading out. Updated pickup and drop-off information is posted at regular stops, and the latest details will continue to be reflected on VIA’s website as they become available.
