Service Changes - January 2022 - VIA Metropolitan Transit


VIA Metropolitan Transit is taking steps to maintain essential service levels while adjusting to meet the current demand with the labor and resources we have today.

VIA is making several changes to service beginning Monday, January 10, 2022. Most of the changes are to improve schedules or to accommodate construction projects.

♦ Naco Pass Improvements

The Naco Pass Transit Hub is being upgraded with improved boarding areas, sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, and real-time arrival information. A temporary stop will be created on Naco Perrin just west of Perrin Beitel until the project is completed during the summer of 2022.

The following routes will be modified in the area to serve the temporary stop. Click on the Route to see the upcoming schedule.

Route 9 Broadway Frequent
Route 14 Perrin Beitel Skip
Route 502 Thousand Oaks

The following routes will have schedule adjustments related to the Naco Pass changes. Click on the Route to see the upcoming schedule.

Route 43 South Flores Frequent
Route 44 Pleasanton Frequent
Route 602 North Star Medical Center also will have schedule adjustments related to the Naco Pass route changes.

♦ Return of Service

Route 630 Randolph/Kirby/Sunrise will return to Candlemeadow due to the completion of a construction project.

♦ Retiring Route Segments

VIA is retiring the following route segments that have been suspended Since April 2020

Route 4 San Pedro Frequent: extension to Blossom Athletic Center
Route 25 East Commerce Frequent: segment at Honey Boulevard
Route 26 Martin Luther King Frequent: segment at St. Philip’s College
Route 30 Rigsby: extension to China Grove and St. Hedwig
Route 36 South Presa: extension to Elmendorf
Route 42 Roosevelt: extension to Losoya
Route 66 Ceralvo Frequent: segment on US 90 at SW 36th Street
Route 515 Southcross: extension on Walters Street


♦ VIA Link Northeast Zone

Boundary was expanded west of Thousand Oaks between Schertz Road and Wurzbach Parkway on October 16, 2021.

♦ VIA Link Express

Sandy Oaks began service to the City of Sandy Oaks on September 13, 2021. This new pilot VIA Link Express service will provide on-demand trips from Sandy Oaks to Brooks Transit Center from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with expected trip wait times of no more than 60 minutes.

♦ VIA Link Northwest Zone

On Oct. 2, 2021, VIA launched the new zone between Culebra Road and Babcock Road, from just outside Loop 1604 to the transit hub at Bandera and Mainland. The new VIA Link zone also provides service to Northwest Vista College and UTSA. VIA Link Northwest will operate from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., seven days a week, with expected trip wait times of no more than 20 to 30 minutes.
