VIA Metropolitan Transit is closely monitoring weather forecasts and road conditions as inclement weather is expected in the San Antonio area this week. The agency is prepared to adjust service as needed, with safety guiding decisions for riders, employees and the general public.
Fixed-route bus, VIAtrans and VIA Link services will continue to operate as long as conditions allow. If weather or road conditions create unsafe conditions, VIA may implement detours or other service adjustments.
“Safety is always our first priority, and that means taking the necessary steps to ensure our riders stay connected to what matters most,” said Tremell Brown, VIA’s Deputy CEO and Chief Safety Officer. “Our teams are prepared to monitor conditions, communicate and make service adjustments when needed.”
VIA has established procedures for responding to severe weather, including coordination among operators, dispatchers, maintenance teams and the agency’s internal emergency operations command team. Operators are trained to follow established protocols and coordinate with dispatchers when road conditions require a detour or other changes in service.
VIA encourages riders to take the following steps when traveling during inclement weather:
- Plan for extra travel time. Weather and road conditions may affect travel times, and riders should consider leaving earlier than usual.
- Check for service updates and detours. Riders can visit VIA’s website, social media pages or call the GoLine at 210-362-2020 to check for route-specific detours and service information.
- Check trip-planning apps. Riders can also use the Transit app, Google Maps or Apple Maps for updated trip information.
- Stay alert when traveling to and from a bus stop. Riders should use caution and allow additional time to safely reach their stop.
VIA will continue to monitor weather and road conditions and provide updates as needed through the channels mentioned above. Riders are encouraged to monitor these resources before and during their trips.
