SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 14, 2017) — As students and their families prepare for the beginning of the new academic year this fall, VIA Metropolitan Transit reminds them that they can save, study, and surf the web with an affordable VIA Semester Pass available now to students enrolled in grades K-12, area colleges and universities or trade school programs.

The $38 pass covers unlimited rides on all regular, Express and Prímo service where passengers can access free 4G LTE WiFi for homework, email, or web browsing. BiblioTech kiosks installed at several VIA Transit Centers offer thousands of academic resources that are downloadable with a free digital membership. A fall pass is valid now through January 31, 2018.

“The Semester Pass is one of the best values VIA offers, not only because it allows students to travel throughout the system at a cost that amounts to less than 25 cents a day, but because it helps provide them access opportunity through education,” VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt said. “VIA’s mission to connect our region means providing safe, reliable public transportation options that are also convenient, affordable, and attractive to the next generation of VIA riders.”

A VIA Semester Pass can be purchased at VIA Information Centers. Proof of current registration and a school photo ID are required to purchase a pass. If a student does not have a photo ID, VIA can issue one for $2 at the VIA Metro Center, the Downtown Information Center, the Kel-Lac Transit Center, the South Texas Medical Center Transit Center, the North Star Transit Center, the Crossroads Park and Ride, and Centro Plaza. Visit VIAinfo.net or call (210) 362-2020 for location information.

Students attending any of the Alamo Colleges may visit the Bursar’s Office to pick up their Semester Pass, which is included in tuition fees. Students at the University of Texas at San Antonio Main Campus can purchase a pass at the Roadrunner Express Store. Students at the University of the Incarnate Word can purchase a pass at the Student Activity Center Information Desk.

VIA customers can download the new VIA goMobile app to access trip-planning features, including nearest routes and bus arrival information. The free app is available on Android and Apple smartphones. Semester Passes cannot be purchased online. For additional details on the Semester Pass and VIA’s other passes and fares, visit VIAinfo.net.
