VIA Metropolitan Transit has rescheduled a showcase of iconic murals located throughout San Antonio’s historic West Side for Oct. 6, 2018. Inclement weather forced the event to be postponed on Sept. 22, 2018.

The free guided tours are in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and feature 15 murals that capture our city’s rich history, as depicted by neighborhood residents, schools, community organizations, and businesses, and coordinated by San Anto Cultural Arts. Visitors will hear the stories behind each of the murals and get an opportunity to photograph the artwork.

The tour is hosted in partnership with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, San Anto Cultural Arts, and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. The family-friendly event kicks off with a welcome ceremony at 9:30 a.m., with San Antonio District 5 Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales, San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Erika Prosper Nirenberg, and VIA President/CEO Jeff Arndt.

Tours will run at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m., and run approximately one hour each. The trips will start and end at the Guadalupe Theater, following the opening ceremony. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

San Anto Cultural Arts is a nonprofit founded in 1993 with the mission to foster human and community development through community-based arts. Information about art created through the Community Mural Program can be found at SanAnto.org.
