VIA was proud to join Texas Governor Greg Abbott in commemorating Internal Auditors Week May 5-11, 2019, and the Texas Senate 86th Legislature and the City of San Antonio in proclaiming May as International Audit Awareness Month.

VIA’s Audit Department, which reports to Board of Trustees Audit Committee, is headed by Chief Audit Officer Larry G. Wallis. His staff of seven full-time and three part-time employees guide VIA in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes.

Abbott recognized internal auditors for establishing and enforcing high standards in efficiency, ethics, overall excellence. The governor’s resolution highlighted auditors’ tasks of ensuring accountability, compliance with organizational policies and regulations, as well as business practices and management.

Senate Resolution No. 698, signed by President of the Senate Dan Patrick, commended “all associated with the internal auditing profession for the immeasurable contributions to this state and nation.”

The City of San Antonio proclamation recognized the Institute of Internal Auditors, which was established in 1941, and represents more than 180,000 members who ensure policies and procedures are in place and working appropriately.
