The city’s libraries, senior centers, and park community centers that serve as cooling centers will return to normal business hours on Monday, June 10. VIA will en free service and return to regular fares Monday.

VIA is offering fare-free service today, Friday, June 7, and through the weekend, on any regular VIA, VIA Link or VIAtrans service for people who need a ride to a cooling center in their area.

Due to power outages affecting the city and extreme temperatures forecast for today, the City of San Antonio is activating their cooling centers to provide residents a safe and comfortable place to escape the heat. Cooling Centers will remain in service until power is restored to CPS customers affected by Thursday’s storms.

VIA passengers should inform the operator that they are traveling to a City cooling center when they board. VIAtrans customers will be allowed to make same-day reservations for cooling center destinations only.

VIA encourages everyone to stay hydrated during summer months. Beverages are allowed on buses and vans in spill-proof or screw-top containers. Carrying an umbrella and dressing in loose or light-colored clothing also helps to keep cool. For more tips, visit VIA online at VIAinfo.net.

Cooling Centers are located at the following sites. Community Centers will be open until 7 p.m. today and until 5 p.m. on Saturday. Libraries will have extended hours until 8 p.m. through June 9. Seniors Centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through June 9.
