Annual contest showcases illustrated poems for National Poetry Month

VIA Metropolitan Transit’s 11th Annual Poetry on the Move Contest is accepting submissions from Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 through Monday, Dec. 2, 2019. The popular contest features selected poems illustrated with designs by area teen art programs. These illustrated poems will be displayed on board the VIA fleet starting April 2020 during National Poetry Month.

“Every year we look forward to the vision and artistry reflected in the works submitted to VIA’s poetry contest,” said VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt. “Our poets’ mastery of the written word provide a connection and inspiration for our riders as they travel on VIA.”

The Poetry on the Move contest is open to anyone age 18 and older in Central and South Texas. Submissions must be entered online at: bibliotech.librariescreate.com/viapoetry. Paper entries will not be accepted. Entries must be submitted to VIA by Monday, Dec. 2, 2019.

Contestants may each submit up to three poems. Each poem must be no longer than 10 lines, including titles and spaces, free of any offensive language, and understandable by a wide audience.
