Transit agency honored with “We Hire Vets” recognition

VIA Metropolitan Transit was recently honored by the “We Hire Vets” recognition program for its continued efforts to hire veterans of the Armed Forces, which now account for 23 percent of VIA’s 2,200-person workforce.

The program is administered by the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Veterans Commission to recognize employers who actively seek to hire former members of the military and have a workforce composed of at least 10 percent veterans.

“VIA consistently recruits and celebrates veterans, who have served their country and have chosen to continue serving their community,” VIA President/CEO Jeff Arndt said. “We’re honored to have nearly a quarter of our workforce represented by veterans—a point of pride for VIA in Military City, USA.”

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), partnering with the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) and Texas Workforce Solutions Offices, announced the “We Hire Vets” employer recognition program in 2017 to recognize Texas employers for their commitment to hiring veterans.

San Antonio is home to over 105,000 veterans, including nearly 63,000 from the recent Gulf Wars (U.S. Census). Texas counts more than 500,000 employers, many of whom have experienced firsthand that veterans are hardworking, motivated and disciplined team members who will bolster an employer’s operation, including VIA.
