VIA crews are on the job, making sure buses and facilities are safe to use.

Buses and vans, transit centers, and stops are cleaned daily with a specialized solution that help kill germs that can cause illness, like flu and coronavirus.

No cases of the coronavirus in San Antonio have been linked to transit use but in response to emergency declarations by the City of San Antonio and Bexar County, we are looking at ways to enhance our daily cleaning schedules to ensure buses, vans and facilities are kept clean.

For more than 10 years, we have provided hand sanitizer supplies to all operators and other employees to help stop the spread of coronavirus, flu and other respiratory illnesses. Operators use the sanitizing solution between hand washings—still the best defense against spreading germs that can cause illness.

We’re urging customers and employees to follow some simple but effective steps recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to stop the spread of germs.

  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Use hand sanitizer.
  • Wipe down surfaces with disinfectant.
  • Stay home if you feel sick and see your doctor when you can.
  • Avoid touching your face often.
  • Avoid crowded places whenever possible.

While health officials believe that the risk to our community is still relatively low, we are taking every precaution to help prevent the spread of this disease.

We don’t anticipate a reduction of service at this time. We have a plan to communicate any change in service to our customers so that they can plan accordingly.
