VIA is a proud Activista sponsor of the Chavez March & Chavez Day Celebration, the main fundraiser to benefit the CECLEF Scholarship Fund which provides college scholarships to area high school seniors.

“It is inspiring to see how the César E. Chávez March for Justice, a longtime San Antonio tradition, has evolved and has been embraced by so many in our community, especially our youth. We appreciate VIA’s support, as they help people make connections to opportunity each day. The March provides an opportunity to engage in civic participation and advocate for social and economic justice for all,” said César E. Chávez Legacy & Educational Foundation Chairman Ernest Martinez.

The organization’s annual march is co-sponsored by the City of San Antonio. This year’s theme is “Let the Spirit Flourish and Grow,” inspired by a line taken from the Farm Worker Prayer written by Cesar Chavez. The march announced a family as Grand Marshals for the procession: the William C. Velásquez Family. Although “Willie” passed away in 1988, his work for championing voting rights continues. He was the founder of the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project in 1974 and Southwest Voter Research Institute in 1985.
