Student artists will illustrate the future of transportation in our region

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 28, 2018) – How will VIA move people in the future? VIA Metropolitan Transit is asking young artists to imagine tomorrow’s transit options for its annual Youth Art Contest. This year’s theme is “Driving the Future.”

Complete Rules

The popular art contest opens March 5, 2018, and regularly draws thousands of entries from student artists throughout the VIA service area. Contestants will have the opportunity to help illustrate how public transportation helps drive our community toward a brighter tomorrow. They are encouraged to show elements of the past, present, and future transit in their artwork.

“Year after year, student artists impress and inspire us with their creative talent and remarkable imagination,” VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt said. “This year, as we celebrate 40 years of service in the community, anticipation is high for what the Youth Art contestants will dream up for the next 40 years of mobility in our region and beyond.”

VIA’s Youth Art Contest is open to students in grades pre-K through 12 in the VIA service area. Submissions will be accepted through Monday, April 16, 2018. All students in area schools and youth-based organizations are invited to participate. Each grade level will have a first- and second-place winner announced. One entry, regardless of grade level, will be named Best of Show. All winners will receive a cash prize and other recognition at an awards luncheon in their honor in May 2018.

Students can illustrate the theme using any medium on an official poster board (11” high x 17” wide). The poster boards are free and can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday-Friday, beginning Monday, March 5 at VIA’s Administration Building, 800 W. Myrtle St., or the VIA Metro Center, 1021 San Pedro Ave. Entries can be dropped off at the Administration Building and the VIA Metro Center, or they can be mailed to the VIA Administration Building, 800, W. Myrtle St., San Antonio, TX 78212 Attn: Jerri Ann Jones. Deadline to submit an entry is 4:45 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018.
