The federal order requiring masks for all customers and employees while inside public transportation vehicles or facilities has been extended to May 3, 2022.

This includes VIA buses and vans, transit centers, and offices.

The Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) mask mandate – based on President Biden’s executive order signed in January 2021 – for travel on airplanes, in airports, on buses, and on rail systems was previously set to expire on April 18.

VIA will continue to enforce the federal order based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation for a one-month extension. The CDC will work with government agencies to revise the mask policy based on the risk of new COVID-19 variants, national data, and the latest science.
