Incentives and Paid Training Provided for New Hires
VIA Metropolitan Transit is offering a hiring incentive of up to $4,000 for bus and paratransit van operators and up to $6,000 for mechanics and will host a job fair on Friday, March 31, 2023.
The job fair will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VIA Metro Center, 1021 San Pedro Ave. Free parking is available.

Starting pay for bus operators is $20.96 per hour and $23.07 per hour for mechanics.
Paid training is provided for new operator hires with classes starting weekly. No experience is necessary. Uniform and tool allowances are also provided, along with one of the best employee benefits packages in the industry.
VIA employees can also participate in the agency’s referral program, earning $1,000 for each successful new hire who works as a bus or van operator, mechanic or shop attendant.
VIA has over 2,000 employees, including more than 800 bus and van operators and more than 260 vehicle maintenance workers. VIA’s service area is more than 1,200 square miles across San Antonio, suburban cities and Bexar County. The agency is expanding its workforce in order to introduce spring service improvements designed to increase frequency and reliability on several key routes throughout the system.
