VIA Metropolitan Transit is proud to honor and support the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. As of today, 381 veterans are employed across the agency — representing 19% of VIA’s total workforce.

Veterans are an essential part of VIA’s workforce and play a vital role in connecting San Antonio. By department, the highest number of veterans is among the agency’s bus operators, where 18% of all bus operators have served. Their leadership, professionalism and commitment to service are reflected daily as they provide safe, reliable public transportation throughout the region.

Leading up to Veterans Day, VIA leadership visited various agency facilities to acknowledge the military service of VIA employees, presenting them with a pin for their service. VIA has been recognizing its veterans with these special events for more than 35 years.

Veterans Day 2025

“Veterans are an integral part of VIA’s success. The skills and values they bring from their military service — dedication, teamwork and accountability — translate seamlessly into the work we do every day to connect customers to what matters most,” VIA President & CEO Jon Gary Herrera said.

VIA is intentional about recruiting and supporting veterans as they transition to civilian careers. The agency regularly participates in job fairs and events that connect with service members separating from active duty, including multiple events each month hosted by Joint Base San Antonio. VIA took part in the Spurs Military Career Day on Oct. 30 at the AT&T Center and will join the annual Red, White, and YOU Job Fair on Nov. 13 at the Boeing Center. The agency is also scheduled to return to Spurs Military Career Day in Spring 2026.

For the past decade, VIA has been recognized by Texas We Hire Vets for its longstanding commitment to employing and supporting veterans across Texas.

VIA proudly celebrates the service and contributions of veterans within its workforce and throughout the community.
